Toronto Communities Profile: East York E03
East York, located north of Danforth Avenue between the Don River and Victoria Park Avenue, developed contemporaneously with the West End of the old City of Toronto, and is similar in form and character. Leaside was independent of East York until the 1967 Amalgamation. Until 1997, it was an autonomous urban borough. Since the 1998 Amalgamation, it is administered as part of old Toronto. The heart of East York is filled with middle-class and working-class homes, with extensive high-rise developments along peripheral major streets and in Crescent Town and Thorncliffe Park.
